What Is The Spacious Leadership Framework?

WHAT IS THE SPACIOUS LEADERSHIP FRAMEWORK?

The Spacious Leadership Framework is inspired by Psalm 18:19 where David transitions from a season of wilderness and declares: “He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” (NIV)

To recognize spaciousness is to first understand Khora, which is an incarnate space; it is the space of the person that God enters and fills, rearranging human contours, making new things possible.

Through this inner transformation, spaciousness is the experience of being set free from things that hold us back; living in freedom, peace, and joy; and having an abundance mindset that values grace, generosity, and being over doing.

Becoming a spacious leader is a lifelong journey of whole-life leadership development where leadership development’s best principles are wisely integrated with spiritual direction.

This journey is one we’re pioneering. Together.

But it’s also a journey where we grow in full confidence of God’s desire to lead us to the Rehoboth God has for us and others - a place that has room enough for all to flourish, be successful, blessed and fruitful.

In its essence, the spacious leadership framework invites leaders to a transformative experience of God's goodness in their lives, so they can resist toxicity, redeem power, and create a culture of goodness in their spheres of influence.

WHAT DOES THE SPACIOUS LEADERSHIP JOURNEY LOOK LIKE?

With full awareness and surrender that God directs our ultimate destiny, we guide ministry and marketplace leaders through the following 5-month experience:

1. Discern Wilderness (Month 1)

The wilderness can feel like a constricted space; one filled with impediments that bind, oppress, and squeeze us. It’s an uncomfortable space, where we often find ourselves alone. It can feel like a tight spot where it’s hard to breathe or find safety because it’s a place of waiting, testing, temptation, limitation, even dark shadows. We know God is here in this space with us, but sometimes it seems his presence is elusive and hard to find. We often want to run from the discomfort of this space, we often will try to go back to what we know, but if we face this space honestly we will discover that we aren’t alone, and the deepest growth and revelation often happens in the space of the wilderness.

2. Enter Your Spacious Place:

  • Define/ReDefine Your Current Reality (Month 2)

    • Identify focal points in your leadership you’d like to improve so you can move towards a more life-giving leadership style. Redefine these areas to expand your perception of reality and explore positive possibilities for growth.

  • Discover/ReDiscover Your Strengths (Month 2)

    • Grow deeper awareness of your unique talents and gifts by telling stories of when you felt you were leading from your most authentic Asian American Christian identity and purpose, highlighting your strengths and most meaningful successes.

  • Develop a Goodness Culture (Month 3)

    • Understand what a goodness culture looks like versus a toxic culture, and contextualize learning through our Asian American perspectives. Learn how to create a goodness culture that comes from an overflow of our own experiences of God’s goodness.

  • Dream To Leave a Better Legacy (Month 4)

    • Imagine from the balcony and articulate the future vision of your leadership legacy and the goodness cultures you envision creating in your ministry or marketplace professions, incorporating your cultural identities into your leadership vision.

3. Co-Create Space With Others (Month 5)

As Spacious Leaders, we are responsible for creating good spaces for others to thrive. We conclude the Khora Experience with a virtual retreat where we:

  • Design A New Reality

    • Dance into reality by building concrete plans and strategies to realize your "Dream" vision, including specific actions, roles, and timelines to implement the desired changes.

  • Do Leadership Differently

    • Live into what you’ve built because action leads to transformation. Put the designed plans into action, monitor progress, celebrate successes, and make adjustments as needed to ensure the vision is sustained.

We will also learn from various experts on leadership topics we deem most essential for spacious leadership.
