During the Advent season, we will feature artwork each week by ChanMi Jung Pyles. The theme for the first week of Advent is Hope. Enjoy ChanMi’s painting, which comes in two pieces and is entitled, “I Am Making a Way.”

(Poem by Joyce Koo Dalrymple)
Right here in the middle of night
where prayers silently float away,
you wait
under a blanket of loneliness.
Right here is holy ground,
where you meet the One
who sees you,
who whispers your name,
and removes your shame.
Right now where no way is found,
He is making a way.
He is parting the sea,
so your feet can walk on dry ground.
Do you not perceive it?
The invisible now made visible
by the light of an ancient star
tracing glimmers of gold on a holy night sky,
guiding your path
through every eternal longing and sorrow
buried deep, now recovered in brilliant color
by God’s love embodied for humankind.
Right here and now,
all is made right in the fullness of time,
by the Light of the World
come for us,
held in manger hay,
a holy culmination—
He has made a way.
“This is what the the Lord says–he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters… : ‘Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:16, 18-19)

ChanMi Jung Pyles is a contemporary abstract artist, writer, and speaker whose work dwells in color, texture, and wonder. Through layered paint and story, she reflects on our journey with Immanuel — the God who is with us — and the hope, beauty, and strength found in trusting His promises. Her art invites hearts toward rest, grace, and anticipation, because He is making all things new (Revelation 21:5).
